                Turtle Pond

Theirs surely is a small universe,
yet they sit perfectly still on the rocks,
                little heads held up,
                lost in thought
                contemplating philosophies
                too profound for me
                to imagine.

A poem from my juvenile days ... This is really based on the serene sight of turtles in a Buddhist temple, but I couldn't find any photo that really shows what I tried to show in the poem.

You captured the mystery of turtle quite well, how their stillness and perpetually old-looking selves project wisdom and understanding.

Oh, but I was looking for turtles on those rocks, I was. You found a couple gorgeous photos.

This poem made me smile. Amy's right, you got the sense of old-philosopher that they exude.

Excellent piece. I like the way you give it a Zen-like treatment. :)

I think the photo is very apt because I see so many turtles in them, exactly what the designer and perhaps you too had intended to.
