Caravaggio, Narcissus

            A Completely Safe, Good Poem

It is about nothing you love, hate or desire.
It avoids sex, God and politics.
            The line breaks are unadventurous
And the shape of the poem is prudent.
The words do not take up arms,
Tear down walls or otherwise conspire.
As you put them down on paper,
            They neither protest nor demonstrate,
            But merely compose themselves
            With a careful, calculated blankness.
They will do exactly as they are told,
And nothing more. One late night
When sleep evades and the questions burn
You return here to your own words
To seek the answers to yourself.
And it is too late. The words fold their arms
And smile in silence. They take no risks.
They know what they know, but they
            Will tell you nothing.

Again i must repost on this one as well this is one of my favorite poems of yours. It reminds me of my poetry teacher who i may not have liked but she taught me many things nonetheless.

This is one of my favorites - eversince I heard it read, it has been stuck in my head.

I would also have to say that this is one of the best advice to one who aspires to write. I think the fear to take things to "the edge" is usually of either fear of offence or fear of revealing one's vulnerability. Emotions can often cloud deeper thoughts or at least obscure them. And to come back around again, maybe it's because we sometimes prefer to justify rather than to face the truth about ourselves, and sometimes we don't want to hear what the words have to say. Backspace, backspace. :)

Sorry about the scare gilbert i wrote that when i was in a very bad mood and i just never changed it back i'll probably change it here soon. I refuse to let myself to get bad enough to even think of suicide again. If i ever get that bad again by chance ive sworn i'll seek help as soon as possible. No worries.

a favourite of mine too
i like it for what it says
and for the irony of the fact that it is saying it

It is a scary thought, i think, when words draw a blank, telling you nothing...

A fine poem. I wish I could write something so relatively pure.

Unfortuantely, my compositional skills are too abstract, some times for my own good.
